European Community State Aids. DTI, June 2001
Download pdf version of the European Community State Aids Guidance (292Kb). This is an updated edition of the guidance booklet on the European State Aid rules. As before, the booklet aims to demystify European Community State aid rules for all whose work involves developing support for business. It assumes you have no prior understanding of State aid - though there is much of value for those with experience of State Aid issues too. Since the last edition, the Council Regulation on Procedure in State aid 659/99 has come into effect, which sets out, among other things, the timetable for handling State Aid cases. There are new sections on block exemption regulations and dealing with structural funds allocations which are State aid.

Enterprise for Communities - Proposals for a Community Interest Company. HM Treasury, March 20023
The Government has published consultation proposals on the introduction of Community Interest Companies (CICs). The CIC will be a new type of company, designed for social enterprises who want to use their profits and assets for the public good. CICs will be easy to set up, with all the flexibility and certainty of the company form, but with some special features to ensure they are working for the benefit of the community. CICs will report to an independent regulator on how they are delivering for the community and how they are involving their stakeholders in their activities.
The consultation document published on 26 March 2003, details how the Government proposes to create a modern and appropriate legal vehicle for social enterprises.
The consultation paper is available to download in pdf format.
